A New Beginning – Bangalore Province

Bangalore Province under the patronage of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus was solemnly erected by Mother Sylvine, Superior General, on 8 June 1986. Sr Dymphna became the first Provincial Superior of the Bangalore Province with her Councillors Sr Esperie, Sr Felicia, Sr Elizabeth, Sr Prima and Sr Gloriosa – Provincial Procurator. Sr Dymphna continued her responsibility as Provincial Superior for a second term from June 1989 with Sr Felicia, Sr Elizabeth, Sr Paula and Sr Simplina as her Councillors. Sr Gloriosa continued as Province Procurator.

Sr Felicia was installed as the second Provincial Superior in June 1993 with Sr Assumpta, Sr Bonita, Sr Paula and Sr Prima as Councillors. Sr Thresiamma was appointed Province Procurator. Sr Bonita was the third in succession to take charge of the Province administration. Sr Bonita was installed as Provincial Superior by Sr Jyoti Superior General on 29 May 2001 with Sr Rose Ann, Sr Shanthi Priya, Sr Susan and Sr Lilitta as Councillors. Sr Therese continued to be the Province Procurator with Sr Aileen as Assistant Procurator.

Sr Lalitta was appointed the fourth Provincial Superior on 31 May 2009, with Sr Jeevan, Sr Simon, Sr Tressy and Sr Prakash as Councillors and Sr Therese as Province Procurator.

At present our Bengaluru Province has 19 communities, 3 PU Colleges, 12 High schools, 17 Hr. Pry. Schools, 18 K.G. schools, 2 social work centres, 1 medical dispensary. Altogether 191 sisters including delegation abroad. The fifth Provincial chapter was celebrated from 3rd to 7th August 2015. Sr. Lillis, General Councillor Delegate of the Superior General was present at the chapter. Transformation unto Christ to be prophetic witnesses through faith was the theme of the chapter. Fr. Freddi D’ Silva S.J was the resource person enlightened on the theme of the chapter. Inaugural mass was offered by Rt. Rev. Dr. Bernard Moras Arch. Bishop of Bengaluru.

Bengaluru Province has achieved partially the goals stipulated at the erection of the Province. More ambitious steps will be needed to achieve greater heights in the years to come. Our trust is in the Most Heart of Jesus and our Mother, the Queen Mother of Bethany. May they guide and lead us onward to serve the reign of God and to share God’s unconditional love with all.

Msgr Raymond Francis Camillus Mascarenhas (Founder)


Raymond was born on 23 January 1875 to Joanna and Lazarus Mascarenhas of Mangalore, then residing at Shimoga. Having completed his academic and priestly training in Mangalore, he was ordained priest on 4 March 1900. He rendered pastoral service at Kallianpur, Udyavar and Agrar. At St Sebastian's Bendur, Monsignor was the founder parish priest from 1914 to 1931. Read More
