Jeevan Jyothi Ashram, Mankale, Sagar, Shimoga – Estd 23 January 1973

It was considered to be a fitting monument in honour of the late Founder who was born in Shimoga. His father was a government employee in the District Collector’s office in Shimoga. Fr Augustine Fernandes, the parish priest accompanied the bishop to Mankale who blessed and laid the foundation stone for the construction of the ashram. The building was ready on 23 January 1975, the birth centenary of Father Founder.

The foundation stone for the Bethany Vocational Training Centre (BVTC) was laid on 6 July 2003, blessed by Fr SR Peter, Vicar General of Shimoga Diocese and it was laid by Sr Susan, the Provincial Councillor. On 6 September 2005, the Jeevan Jyothi community was canonically erected as an independent community.

Msgr Raymond Francis Camillus Mascarenhas (Founder)

Founder

Raymond was born on 23 January 1875 to Joanna and Lazarus Mascarenhas of Mangalore, then residing at Shimoga. Having completed his academic and priestly training in Mangalore, he was ordained priest on 4 March 1900. He rendered pastoral service at Kallianpur, Udyavar and Agrar.
