St. Anthony’s Convent, Ponnapet. Kodagu – Estd 21 May 1979

anthony_ponnput The significant event of entering Kodagu (Coorg) district created ripples of joy in Bethany. Sr Eliza and Sr Cleta from St Joseph’s Convent, Kalpetta were requested to go to Ponnampet to pioneer the work of opening a convent and an English medium school. Their presence was accepted gratefully by the public.

1The school started functioning on 22 May 1979 in the church building till the school building was ready. The convent building was blessed and inaugurated on 28 January 1981 by Most Rev Mathias Fernandes.

Msgr Raymond Francis Camillus Mascarenhas (Founder)

Founder

Raymond was born on 23 January 1875 to Joanna and Lazarus Mascarenhas of Mangalore, then residing at Shimoga. Having completed his academic and priestly training in Mangalore, he was ordained priest on 4 March 1900. He rendered pastoral service at Kallianpur, Udyavar and Agrar. At St Sebastian's Bendur, Monsignor was the founder parish priest from 1914 to 1931. Read More
