St. Mary’s Convent, Kutta, Kodagu – Estd 2 July 1979

mary_convent_kutta1The little town Kutta in Kodagu is a coffee plantation area covered with coffee estates all over. The government hospital on the hillock on one side and the Karnataka State Road Transportation Corporation (KSRTC) bus stand at the foot of the hills appeared to be an ideal place for the estate owners to have a school to educate their children.

mary_convent_kutta3An English medium school was thought to be important to provide education for the children coming from multlinguistic backgrounds like Malayalam, Tamil, Tulu, Coorgi and Konkani. Sr Eliza, Sr Matutina and Sr Josia were assigned as pioneers to St Mary’s School, Kutta.
